Ithaca is known as a very hands on technical school, where your more likely to spend hours in a Television Studio or at a Hospital then you are writing essays. Not my cup o tea, but like I said, IC has something for everyone. Cortica happens once a year which is pretty awesome I have to admit but other than that there isn't much to do. Athletics are great, don't usually get a great following except the Cortaca Jug Football game between IC Cortland the biggest D3 rivalry in the nation lot of fun. I know of some kids who've gone to IC After Dark events drunk before, so I'm not sure it works. The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering is a state of the art facility for students the learn. Sophomore: As a sophomore I have very few complaints (mainly parking and food, but those are issues on virtually every campus)-- the wifi is surprisingly fast considering our undergrad size, the campus itself is beautiful (and bug-free if you don't live in CIW or the apartments communities), the dorms are great compared to other campuses such as Hamilton, Clarkson, and Lafayette (freshmen can live in any housing community except the apartments) and courses are engaging and challenging. Each year the Park School accepts a limited number of students from other schools at Ithaca College. While a large majority of the community does drink alcohol, there are definitely students that choose not to. i find it hard to find people to date. The classes are small so you get to know the teacher and others in your class one on one which is extremely helpful. When the weather is nice, "there's always some festival," or at least it seems that way. Some of the academic buildings need more maintenance than others and the student workers should get paid more but the jobs are not too bad. The school however has many people whether CAPS our counseling resource or our Residential Advisors who can help with that. Not too big (~1-mile end to end). If you're eager to find activities, there's never a loss of options. It's college, so you have serious relationships or just hookups really. The people I've met are either boring or pretentious and too good for everyone. It was a supportive, safe environment where I could study a subject I was interested as well as pursue other interests as minors. Apparently we're a "really good" division 3 school. While the campus is a little "isolated," students also frequently manage to attend frat parties at Cornell and generally "enjoy the social scene" the nearby Ivy offers. don't expect this though, as i can only assume that this situation is not the norm. There isn't really much to do ON campus. No matter what you want to major in, there's a party school for you. Theory, Practice, Performance You have two hills to roam. It really depends on how much work you have that week, how you're feeling, etc. They hold rather large and fun events for students to attend. The environmental society is popular. I met my closest friends by going up to them and saying that they look fun and asking them to be my friend. This is not my scene though. There are a lot of local and international music concerts/gigs/performances downtown and on campus, so those are really fun to attend. In addition to this, the staff place us student teachers in the district schools to gain field hours for our certifications instead. Honestly, as a town ithaca offers a lot of awesome events that won't be found at similar size cities. What major is Ithaca College known for? leave us alchies alone. Types of Transportation Available to Campus. There are no sororities or fraternities and most people here find it to be a good thing because it cuts back on some of the inevitable cliquiness. . Nice student union. Dating consists of inviting someone to a party. I'm a member of Ithacappella (the all-male acappella group here on campus), and through it I've made my closest friends at school. The big traditions are Cortica Jug, when Ithaca plays Cortland in football before Thanksgiving, and Applefest. Ithaca College is an open-minded community that has good support systems when it comes to mentors, advisors, and administration. Not really an accessible campus but the school does kind of work with you if you have a disability. Now if that's not an accomplishment, I don't know what is. They also offer some of the country's top programs in specific fields. There is also the African American and Latino SOciety groups, Habitat for HUmanity, etc. Partying is pretty standard on weekends here, you'll find plenty of people walking around late on a Saturday night looking for a party. Ithaca College. Once you turn 21 there are bars everywhere. Some students tell us that you'll find "a lot of people are environmentally and socially conscious" here who want "to change the world.
